4 v 4 Defense Adjusting to Inserting Attacker
This drill is designed to develop defensive awareness, communication, and execution of defensive adjustment.
Attackers, holding tackle shields, begin with 3 players in an attacking line with a 4 player roaming and inserting wherever he or she chooses. The Defenders must REACT to where the roaming attacker inserts and adjust the defensive marking accordingly.
When the attacker inserts, the defense adjusts and come up as a line to complete the tackle as a unit, i.e. make contact with the tackle shields held by the attackers all at the same time.
Key Points:
Defenders must maintain a flat defensive line (trust your teammates to make the tackle);
Defenders use 'soft focus' to see the entire GROUP of attackers (use peripheral vision);
Defenders by seeing entire Group of attackers maintain awareness of attacking options so that Defenders can respond quickly to the option taken by the attackers.
Defenders communicate where Attacker is inserting, and audible adjustments, i.e. let teammates know which attacker is being marked by defender.
